Animation?

I have started an experimental version of Grafx2 that loses layers but gains animation capabilities. This means the program and user interface stay as simple as the layers version, instead of becoming exponentially more complex (and also that I could do it in one week instead of one year!).
The experiment starts here, but if you want to test, be sure to pick the latest attached version. It's a very early version, waiting for your comments. By the way, the default shortcuts for previous/next frame are set to Insert and Home.

A port of Grafx2 v2.3 to Android has been freely released by Pelya ! It's available on all "market" sites like this one, and the sources are on Github.
It's impressive, but please note that fingers are much less precise than a stylus or mouse :)

From now on, the notes tagged "news" here are automatically integrated in grafx2's homepage. This should make it easier to build a rolling history of news, rather than update the main page.
The feed of blogspot doesn't support "Date" (or at least in no way that google gadget API recognizes) so these kinds of posts should have the date as a title, in format DD Month YYYY.

Spacing trick

Here's a trick I found recently:

There I am converting one of the old fonts by Made to the Grafx2 format. But there's a problem: The fonts' glyphs are neatly arranged 16px wide, and our format requires to arrange them in 17 pixel columns (15px character, 1px explicit space, 1px marker). Cutting and pasting with brush tool would do the trick, but it requires very precise positioning both in cut and paste. Instead we'll use a trick with the smooth tool. What?!

Look at this matrix with only zeroes and a single one: It means that each modified pixel will get the color... of the pixel to its left. With these settings and SMOOTH MODE:ON, I'm going to draw large filled rectangles over the blocks that I want to shift right, one column at a time.

While dragging rectangle:

After release (spacing between N and O has increased from 1 to 2 pixels)

There, font is now neatly aligned on 17px grid:

Note: This smooth trick converts color indexes to RGB then to color indexes again. If there are duplicates in the palette, you don't have guarantee that the color indexes are preserved. In my case, I had to merge the blacks into a single color again. (Palette screen : Reduce to: unique)

Deluxe-paint-like skin

Here's a modification of Jamon's DP skin, attempting to make it look more like the original Amiga version of Deluxe Paint. When Jamon did it, Grafx2 had much less possibility of customizations, now I could match the button behavior more closely : Buttons are mostly black on a solid color, with only a lightened angle; and the 'selected' version of buttons is in negative. At first I found the blackened icons too dark, but after all it's really not bad, handy for immediately seeing which tools are active. Skin format suitable for Grafx2 2.3wip and later.

Color cycling

Here's an example of the color cycling feature of Grafx2:

The fractal itself was simply generated by a Lua script made by DawnBringer, and then I designed nice colors to cycle in the gradient menu. To see this animation, open the file in Grafx2 v2.3wip or later and activate color-cycling (Ctrl+~).
